Marian Cover Dockery
Marian Cover Dockery is the Managing Member of Marian Dockery & Associates LLC. The firm is a boutique woman and minority-owned law firm based in Atlanta, GA. Marian has over 35 years of legal experience in the area of labor and employment discrimination. Her firm handles employment discrimination, wage, and hour claims, negotiates severance agreements, and conducts personal injury claims and business litigation for her clients.
Prior to starting her firm, Marian worked as a Senior Attorney with the Office for Civil Rights, Department of Education specializing in disability claims under 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and discrimination charges filed under Title VI, and Title IX of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Marian’s prior experience includes working with two major Fortune 500 companies, as EEO/AA Manager of BP Oil where she handled the company’s EEO charges nationwide, and she conducted investigations in coal mines, copper mines, oil refineries and the exploration and production facilities. Marian also served as in-house counsel with FEDEX as their first woman and minority handling all labor and EEO-related matters for the company, airplane closings and contract negotiations. Marian is a ranked arbitrator with FINRA and has served as chair and panelist on arbitration hearings for the past thirteen years. Prior to FEDEX, Marian was a Trial Attorney with the EEOC where she served as Lead Counsel in a complex race discrimination class action case and Lead Counsel in a single race discrimination case where she received a bench ruling for the Commission.
Marian also has extensive background in diversity training and has made presentations to national and local organizations (including the Minority Corporate Counsel Association and Vanderbilt Alumni Association, Atlanta), on this topic and has written numerous articles on diversity for the Georgia Bar Journal and The Fulton County Daily Report. Marian serves as the Executive Director of the State Bar Diversity Program where she leads a Steering Committee of partners, in-house counsel and government attorneys in the planning of annual Business Development programs, Continuing Legal Education programs and High School Pipeline Programs, a partnership with the State Bar of Georgia Diversity Program, Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School and The Leadership Institute for Women of Color Attorneys, Inc.
